With the 2017 competition season almost upon us and the band newly upgraded to grade 3A, they are currently preparing to take part at the indoor contest at Livingston on Saturday 1st April.
This year marks the 130th anniversary of the formation of Wallacestone & District Pipe Band and as this photograph of a young Willie Bennie, passed to the band last week and taken about 100 years ago shows, there are still photos out there which can be added to the band’s long and rich history.
The band would be delighted to hear from the friends or relatives of any former band members who may have photographs of historical interest which could be added to the archives.
We currently have photographs dating back to around the mid 1890’s, but are sure that the forming of the band in 1887 under Pipe Major John Wilson must have been such a big event for the village of Wallacestone, that photographs must have been taken.
Many thanks to Jim Bennie for the photograph of his late father.
